by CHARLOTTE HAZARD | The National News Desk WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he doesn’t blame Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn for holding up the nomination of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. He predicted that Cornyn was probably doing it because Trump endorsed his primary GOP Senate opponent, Attorney General Ken Paxton. Trump said he would do the same thing if he were in Cornyn’s shoes. Cornyn and North Carolina GOP Sen. Thom Tillis have been opposed to Blanche being the Attorney General.

Trump said he had no problem pulling Blanche’s nomination from being U.S. Attorney General until Tillis and Cornyn were out of office. John Kennedy warned that decision could backfire. A reporter asked Kennedy if it would be “risky” to delay Branche’s nomination until the midterms were over. If the Democrats take the Senate back, the likelihood of Blanche being confirmed could be at risk.
