The Minnesota Lynx and Indiana Fever recently met in a significant game featuring two teams with championship aspirations. The on-court action was overlooked by many due to the off-court comments made by Fever forward Sophie Cunningham in a recent interview.
Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve spoke with Cunningham prior to the game and later revealed her thoughts on the interaction.
The Lynx defeated the Fever 108-100 at Target Center, and Reeve was asked about her discussion with Cunningham in her post-game press conference.
Reeve said, “I think it’s great. I think both of us understand that we have platforms and we both talked about wanting to educate, and there’s some things we have in common and maybe some things you differ on, just like any issue. I think it’s how you handle things.”
Cameras caught Reeve and Cunningham having a discussion during pregame warmups. The Lynx head coach suggested the conversation was productive and a sign that interacting with people who may not share the same views doesn’t have to be hostile.

Cunningham has become one of the most discussed figures in the WNBA after expressing her stance on transgender athletes participating in women’s sports.
She’s expressed gratitude for the support she received during the Fever’s recent road trip with several rallies celebrating her for speaking out. However, the Fever guard was also subjected to consistent boos from several sections of fans since making her comments.

On the court, Cunningham had a quiet game against the Lynx, scoring 3 points in 23 minutes of action.
With her critics often pointing out that she receives nearly unprecedented attention and stardom despite being a clear role player, Cunningham’s performance against the Lynx will likely become another talking point.
The Fever had trouble stopping the Lynx’s All-Star backcourt, as rookie Olivia Miles scored 28 points and Courtney Williams scored 27 points to help Minnesota on a 10-game winning streak and bring their record to 25-6.
Kelsey Mitchell was the standout performer for Indiana, recording a game-high 37 points and going 14-of-21 from the floor. Caitlin Clark chipped in with 19 points and 10 assists, but the efforts could not prevent Minnesota from snapping the Fever’s five-game win streak.
